China's Ministry of Land and Resources says the country's natural gas output hit a record high of 101.2 billion cubic meters in 2011.The official data also shows growing production and proven deposits of other resources. But officials say, China still needs to ensure efficient use and boost output, to meet domestic demand.
According to data from China's Ministry of Land and Resources, 1.37 billion tones of proven geological oil reserves was discovered in 2011, up nearly 21 percent from 2010. China also unearthed 766 billion cubic meters of proven geological natural gas deposits in 2011, a rise of around 30 percent from 2010. The ministry has underscored the importance of developing the country's resources.
Xia Jun, deputy inspector of General Office, Ministry of Land and Resources, said:" It is profoundly important for China to keep to steady and sustainable development of its crude oil and mining resources."
In the meantime, the ministry also admitted that despite the increase in natural gas production, it's still not sufficient to meet ever-growing domestic demand.
Xu Dachun, the deputy director of General Office, Ministry of Land and resources, said:" Domestic consumption has outgrown production, mainly due to the booming civil and chemical industrial sectors."
The ministry says China should actively seek other energy sources, including alternative and green options, and make full use of existing resources. It says, this will help reduce China's over-reliance on foreign imports. In the meantime, the ministry also points out upgrading industrial infrastructure is a priority.
