Thailands hard disk drive (HDD) production is the worlds second largest, and its been crippled by flooding. It threatens to push up prices globally.
Already, figures released by Chinas Ministry of Commerce show that the hard disk drive prices in the nations major electronics markets have surged more than 30 percent.
Analysts believe that the rise will soon spread to other parts of the industry, nudging up prices of other computer products. Over the long run, though, experts say hard disk drive manufacturers in the Chinese mainland and Taiwan are likely to ratchet up its production, making up for the shortage.
