Fuel surcharges raised on flights from mainland to HK, Macau

Air China, China Southern Airlines and other major Chinese airlines have raised the fuel surcharge on flights between Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, reporters learned from Ctrip.com, China's leading online travel booking company, on April 6.

Air China increased surcharges on flights from the mainland to Hong Kong from 140 yuan to 164 yuan on April 1.

China Southern Airlines raised fuel surcharges on those flights on the same day. The surcharge on flights from Hong Kong and Macao to the Chinese mainland increased from 165 Hong Kong dollars to 194 Hong Kong dollars. The surcharge on flights in the opposite direction rose from 140 yuan to 164 yuan.

Previously, several airlines, including Dragonair, Cathay Pacific Airways and Shenzhen Airlines had already raised fuel surcharges on flights between Chinese mainland and Hong Kong as well as Macao.

The immediate cause of the hike on fuel surcharges is the soaring oil prices, said Shao Jihong, director of air ticket operations at Ctrip.com.
