China's overseas investment surges in Q1

China invested more than 8.5 billion US dollars in non-financial sectors abroad, in the first quarter.

It represents a 13.2 percent increase compared with the same period last year. The mainland's overseas investment, mainly goes into other Asian economies. But the Ministry of Commerce says China's investment in Australia and the European Union, increased more than 150 percent in recent months.

Figures from the ministry also show mergers and acquisitions were preferred by most Chinese investors, given around 14 percent of China's overseas investment was made in M and A activity. China's new contracted foreign projects also increased... surging more than 16 percent in the first quarter.
