China's Lenovo and Japan's NEC have announced the newly-formed NEC Lenovo Japan Group. The joint venture creates Japan's biggest PC provider, accounting for nearly a quarter of the country's fiercely-competitive PC market.

Lenovo and NEC say they expect to lift their combined market share in Japan by about 5 percent in three years.

The collaboration is seen by market watchers as a strategy to widen Lenovo's slim profit margins, and lift NEC's meagre 0.8 percent global market share.

Lenovo CEO, Yang Yuanqing, says the joint venture will deliver innovative, high-quality products and services to Japanese customers, and that Lenovo is committed to the Japanese market.
